![]() ![]() ![]() Does anyone have experience using SMB in a similar config? Has anyone had experience with using SMB between OS X 10.11 OS X 10.11?įor example if I had a iMac (client) running OS X 10.11, and a Mac Pro (server) running OS X 10.11 with OS X Server 5. One change client-side (Mac OS X) you may wish to try is to edit/create /etc/nf - i.e.: In which case some of the modifications below may not apply. UPDATED : Newer versions of OS X will use SMB3 when the server supports it (Server 2012R2 for example). ![]() In limited testing, I have seen excellent results between even 10.10 and Server2012R2 SMB. With 10.11, reports are that AFP can be problematic for network homes (which are in and of themselves becoming problematic with 10.11 as found by many Mac admins), and although AFP is still supported, the default file-sharing protocol is SMB. You can read more about the vfs_fruit module (with thanks to Ralph Böhme and the whole Samba team !) here:Īnd find some more discussion about it here at SW in relation to various storage options here: If you're working with Mac clients running OS X 10.10 or earlier, hands-down your best option is AFP as provided by OS X Server, or with a Windows-only server environment, Acronis Acronis Access Connect (Formerly known as ExtremeZ-IP, and/as acquired from GroupLogic).Īnother option where you have Linux servers, is Samba with the vfs_fruit module enabled. ![]()
